Local writer, Cynthia Hilston is on fire! She has finished her third book in the last three years and is on pace to release two more next year.
Her newest book, “A Laughing Matter of Pain,” debuts this weekend. It can be pre-ordered on Amazon now.
It is exciting to celebrate the success of a local author born and raised in Ohio, whose books are set in the Buckeye State.
I met Cynthia at a local writing conference. Over the last year, I’ve had the privilege of being a part of a writing group with her. Cynthia taught me much about writing, especially when it comes to grammar. She’s the comma queen! I enjoyed beta reading, “A Laughing Matter of Pain,” laughing and crying as I grew to love Harry and the other characters.
When asked what inspired “A Laughing Matter of Pain,” Cynthia said,
A Laughing Matter of Pain was inspired by my first book, Hannah’s Rainbow. It’s a spin-off about Hannah’s brother, Harry. In Hannah’s Rainbow, Hannah and Harry grow very close at young adults, but events happen the lead to Harry stepping out of Hannah’s story for several years.I wanted to explore what happened in Harry’s life during that missing time, so the result is this novel. Harry’s story can be read on its own, but reading Hannah’s Rainbow does add to his story as well.
Cynthia is a thirty-something busy wife and mom of three kids. What I’ve learned from Cynthia is if you want to be a writer, you can’t make excuses. You have to show up each day and write.
Cynthia spends about thirty minutes each day writing two pages. The end result? Three books in three years.
Let’s support one of our own. OH-IO!!
