K is for Kept by Jesus Christ
Kept: to maintain possession of; guard, protect, look after, provide necessities, to fulfill, to remain fresh and unspoiled.
This is probably my most favorite attribute of who I am in Christ. As someone who deals with anxiety I have spent many, many hours in the Psalms. At one point I read through the Psalms and wrote down every verse that had to do with God being my rock, my fortress, my deliverer. When my reality doesn’t line up with truth – I pull out those verses and read them over and over choosing to believe the truths of God’s Word over my tangled emotions.
David’s words are healing to my parched and weary soul. He is honest with God about whatever mess he happens to be in at the moment – but then – he always ends with praising God. Love that.
Here are just a few verses that speak about God keeping us. And I’m so glad He does. So many times I get my life all topsy-turvy and it’s only God’s truths that set my world right again.
“He gives us life and does not permit our feet to slip.” Psalm 66:9
“He only is my rock and my salvation, My stronghold; I shall not be greatly shaken.” Psalm 62:2
“If I should say, “My foot has slipped,” Your lovingkindness, O LORD, will hold me up.” Psalm 94:18
“LORD, you brought me from death; you kept me alive so that I did not descend into the Pit.” Psalm 30:3
“With time you can learn where to go for nourishment, where to hide for protection, where to turn for guidance. Just as your earthly house is a place of refuge, so God’s house is a place of peace.” Max Lucado
I really enjoy learning how you see yourself in God’s eyes, as it relates to each word.
I don’t know where I’d be without His patient, gracious love. What an awesome God we serve!
